Methodology
Planned production hours = calendar hours minus the hours you never intended to run — unstaffed shifts, weekends, shutdowns. Running hours removes setup, breakdown and idle-waiting time from that. Two utilisation figures are reported deliberately. Utilisation of calendar hours answers an investment question: how much of the asset you paid for is producing. Utilisation of planned hours answers an operations question: how well the time you staffed was used. Reporting only one of them is how utilisation arguments go in circles. Each loss is expressed as a share of planned production hours, so the three are directly comparable and the largest one is identified rather than left to inspection. Cost of lost hours values setup, breakdown and idle time at the hourly operating cost you enter. That cost is a decision aid, not an accounting figure: whether an idle hour truly costs anything depends on whether the machine is the constraint. Excluded: speed loss while running, quality loss (a machine running scrap looks fully utilised here — the OEE calculator handles that), product mix, and the question of whether higher utilisation is desirable at all on a non-constraint machine. You supply every input: this site holds no factory cost data, capacity figures, yields, cycle times or industry benchmarks, and never estimates them for you.
