Find the constraint that is actually binding
Most of these arguments are held on price and lost on something else. Work through the constraints in order of how expensive they are to breach: a promise to a customer that carries a penalty, a product that cannot be double-handled without a rejection, a receiving site that only accepts certain vehicle types, then finally the freight budget. Whichever of those breaks first is the one that should decide the service. If none of them binds, the comparison collapses into arithmetic and the shared network is usually the less costly way to move the consignment, because it spreads the cost of the vehicle across many customers.
